I've seen a lot of old Mu-Tron III pedals and some had a broken vactrol.
Fixing this vactrol isn't easy. You need to know what you are doing and how to perform these fixes. It can be done though with minimal parts.
A vactrol
A vactrol is a combination of a LDR (light dependent resistor) and a light source. A single lightsource can also feed multiple LDR's when they are placed against or over the lightsource. Usually these parts are shielded for extra light by a lightshield. This can be as easy as some shrinktube but this can also be done by casing both parts in epoxy.
The vactrol in a Mu-Tron III (and the fOXX guitar synth) is encased in epoxy. The lightsource in this vactrol feeds two LDR (that are housed in a single enclosure).
